SDG 1
No Poverty
Every piece in our handmade range is made by hand by Bangladeshi artisans, so each order is paid work for the people who make it.
How we contribute →Sustainability
What our export trade means for the people who make our products and for the materials they are made from, described plainly, with figures added only when we can back them up.
Four of the UN Sustainable Development Goals relate directly to our work. For each one: what we do today, and what we aim to do.
SDG 1
Every piece in our handmade range is made by hand by Bangladeshi artisans, so each order is paid work for the people who make it.
How we contribute →SDG 5
Crafts such as crochet, coiling and weaving can be done at home, which makes them paid work that fits around other responsibilities.
How we contribute →SDG 8
Export orders connect Bangladeshi producers and craftspeople with buyers overseas. Buyers deal directly with the proprietor and receive a written quotation before they commit.
How we contribute →SDG 13
Our handmade range is made from plant fibres (jute, bamboo, cotton and natural grass) that can take the place of plastic in baskets, storage and homeware.
How we contribute →S.S Trading is not affiliated with or endorsed by the United Nations. The goal names show which of the UN Sustainable Development Goals our work relates to.
What our products are made from and how they are made. We describe practices here; figures appear only once we can show their source.
Jute, bamboo, cotton and grass are plants that grow back. They are the main materials of our handmade range.
See the raw materials →Our handmade pieces are crocheted, coiled, woven and knotted by hand rather than made by machine.
Browse handmade products →We publish environmental figures only when we can show where they come from. Until then, we describe what we do rather than claim what it achieves.
How we report
These pages describe our current practices and our aims. They do not yet include figures such as artisan numbers or environmental savings.
We will add each figure only when we can show where it comes from, and say so next to it. If you need specific information for your own sourcing or reporting, ask us and we will tell you what we can confirm.
